Production of Polyhydroxyalkanoates by Bacillus megaterium: Prospecting on Rice Hull and Residual Glycerol Potential

The production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) by Bacillus megaterium using industrial residues, crude glycerol from biodiesel synthesis and rice hull hydrolysate (RHH), as low-cost carbon sources was investigated. experiments were conducted shaking flasks at 30 °C 180 rpm up to 72 h. extraction PHA carried out sodium hypochlorite make its recovery more environmentally friendly avoiding organic solvents (chloroform). yields varied depending on the method. A total 33.3% (w·w−1) (mixing chloroform: hypochlorite) 52.5% (sodium only) obtained glucose a source, respectively. Preliminary RHH source Indicated yield 11% produced had thermal properties, such transition temperature, similar commercial polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB).
